Wrigley

A big thanks to Wrigley’s foster for writing this wonderful bio!

Wrigley is an 11-month-old (approximately) chocolate lab who is looking for his best forever home. Wrigley, like most labs, loves his people. He likes a snuggle and lots of pets. He is very happy to sleep on the couch next to you or in a cuddle puddle with a canine friend. Wrigley is all about play! A canine buddy to play and cuddle with would be the best! At his foster, he gets along well after with all his companions after an initial slow introduction. He likes to try to play with the cat, who puts him in his place when needed, but he does not play rough. He’s a big-time chewer; only Kongs and Nyla bones can withstand his chompers, everything else he chews and eats. Children around Wrigley have been over 10 so how he would do with younger ones is not known. Wrigley loves car rides but has not been left alone in the car longer than a few minutes. So far so good! He also kennels well but prefers to be out with is human and canine friends. He is currently kenneled when the dogs are left without human supervision in the house for more than a half hour or so. He sleeps in the bedroom, presumably on a bed of his own, but frequently in his human’s sleeping space.

Wrigley is working hard to be the best boy, but has some issues regarding food. He is a food stealer. He will take any kind of food from anywhere or anyone. This results in counter surfing, table thievery, inveterate begging, garbage diving and constant kitchen supervision in case something gets dropped. He will even steal food from a hand that is in the vicinity of his face. Wrigley’s foster is working with him on these behaviors but his new family should be prepared to continue the training. He is currently fed away from other dogs in a closed area as he is still working on food guarding issues.  He is definitely making progress, though. Wrigley has not had a basic obedience course and would benefit from one. He learns quickly and really wants to please. He sits and waits when his food bowl is put down until given the “OK” signal. Pretty amazing for a guy who values food so highly. This dog has a wonderful heart and will be a great addition to a family that is willing to work with him on his food issues. He’s very kind and knows when he’s done something he shouldn’t. He benefits from gentle handling. He so wants to be a good boy.
