Johnny Cash

Johnny Cash is a lovable 3-year-old mix of Golden Retriever and Husky/Shepherd, and he's every bit as loyal, smart, and affectionate as you'd hope.

Johnny is a true outdoor enthusiast who loves spending time outside and stays close to his people while supervised. He does great at the groomer and has a heart of gold — just like his Golden Retriever side suggests. Whether he's cuddling on the couch or greeting you with tail wags when you get home, Johnny is always happy to be by your side.

He gets along wonderfully with other dogs (medium to large) and even cats, but he’s not comfortable around young kids or small dogs — they make him nervous and anxious. For this reason, we’re looking for a calm, child-free home where he can feel safe and secure.

Johnny is currently on a daily medication (Fluoxetine) for anxiety. He struggles when his family leaves for long vacations, but in a more stable, home-based environment — especially one where travel is infrequent — he may be able to be weaned off this medication with the guidance of a veterinarian.

He could use a little work on his leash manners, mostly because he's spent much of his time enjoying life at the cabin and hasn’t had much leash practice. Johnny is crate trained and sleeps in his kennel at night. If desired, he can go to his new home with an XL wire crate. With a bit of patience and consistency, he’ll continue to do great in his training.

NOTE: GRRF is not a first-come-first served rescue. Our volunteers place dogs in homes we believe to be the best fit. We won’t follow up with you unless you’ve been chosen to meet with the dog, however, your application will remain on file and you can request it be transferred to a future dog.
