LILO

4/14/05  "Special Needs Dog"

Lilo is a 2 year old, female lab cross.  Lilo was hit by a car two weeks ago and her old owner could not afford to care for her leg that was injured.  They had to go out of town and one of our GRRF friends heard about her plight and asked if we could take her, repair her leg and rehome her.  Her old owners relinquished her and we took her straight to Aurora Animal Clinic.  Lilo leg was not broken but her ligament was shot and her right hock just wagged in the wind.  Lilo was getting around on three legs.  Dr. Val Stuve perform a miracle and was able to give Lilo a synthetic ligament and two screws to hold it together.  Lilo also is now spayed, tattooed, vaccinated, hips x-rayed (good) and gaining some weight as she was a little thin.  Lilo was a little shy of strangers as she had been running loose in Salcha and returning home.  We have had a few folks reporting seeing this little girl the week prior to us getting her running on the Richardson on three legs.  Well she is safe now and getting more and more comfortable every day.

5/2/05  UPDATE!!!!

Lilo went to a foster family soon after her surgery.  She got her splint off a week post op and everything looks great.  Lilo thrived in fostercare and enjoyed the company of two other dogs and two cats.  A very loving and caring couple came to see her and fell for her right away.  Lilo was also taken with them too and practically jumped into their arms.  Lilo happily went on trial with this adoring couple and has been doing great.  We expect a full recovery with her leg and she is coming back for a follow up exam with Dr. Stuve in four weeks.
