GINGER

7/20/05

Ginger is a 4 yr old Golden Ret/Labrador cross, spayed female.  She was first relinquished to GRRF back in Feb from a family that got her from another family.  Everyone adored her but they did not have time to spend with her.  GRRF placed Ginger in the Anchorage area with a very good family that excised Ginger and took her for many long walks on the trails and she was in bliss.  However, Ginger didn't receive all the social skills she needed as a young dog and she had a few fights with dogs camping and on the trails.  She was very reluctantly returned to GRRF.  Ginger is however excellent with children and like any retriever, she adores people.  Ginger is a very outgoing, smart and athletic retriever.  She is outstanding in the house and just active when outside.  Her old family taught her how to skijor and she can easily pull a grown man 6 miles and hardly wind herself.  Ginger always got along with dogs in foster care and since she has been back she has gotten along with all dogs we introduce her to.  She stayed at Holy Dog Kennels for one week and played with and interacted with many dogs there and had no problems.  In foster care with a great lady that takes her everywhere, she has had a great time playing and getting introduced to very well socialized dogs and going for long walks.  We have found that Ginger can get along with most dogs if they are properly introduced and the other dogs are well socialized and calm.  Ginger is learning how to approach strange dogs with good graces and doing very well.

Ginger has very good obedience manners and is good off leash, however we need to be sure that we are in charge of any new dog meetings.  Ginger is a strong and large retriever.  She needs a home that can stay in charge and exercise her mind and body.
