11/13/08 UPDATE

Zeka has been very reluctantly returned to us again.  Her family that adopted over two years ago has adored her. They however are a military family and Zeka's best friend is deployed for a year and the wife has her hands full with active kids and Zeka is not getting the attention they feel she desearves.  It has been a long and hard decidion for them but they want more for Zeka.  The soldier has emailed his wished as well.  We are looking for Zeka's last stop and "Forever Home".  She is love of a dog and absolutely exceptional.  She is good with everything but now at five can try to boss younger dogs a little.  Zeka is a beautiful Lab cross with loads to offer.  Zeka has been with small children, cats and small dogs.

6/1/06 Zeka is a three year old, spayed female Labrador Retriever cross.  She was originally relinquished to the Animal Shelter in Nov 2004 where her owner had rescued her from an abusive situation but found that she didn't enough time for her.  GRRF got her and had an entropion surgery done on her right upper and lower eyelid (extra skin rolls in and rubs on eye).  Zeka was adopted right out to a very kind family with a houseful of children.  Zeka is exceptionally calm and gentle and did great with kids of all ages.  However, recently Zeka's owner had to reluctantly return her as one of the children had developed fairly serious allergies to her.  GRRF held on to Zeka for three weeks to see if the child's condition improved with her gone and he did.  The children are very upset and saddened by the loss of Zeka and she to them.  She is doing well in foster care but she was very quiet for the first few day.  Now Zeka is playing with other dogs and learning more obedience.  Her foster mom Andra has these kind words to say about her:

I would say Zeka is an exceptionally calm, good natured lab.  She has a very laid back attitude, and her manners are neat and tidy.  She is very nice to have inside, as she settles well, and kennels easily when needed.  I have not seen her chew anything, and she is not a barker.
