Dec 28, 2004: Tommy is just the greatest little man!! I had the pleasure of babysitting Tommy again and he is really a sweet dog with great house manners. He adores people and is wonderful with children. See added pictures of how he loves to snuggle. This is a very dear little dog and really deserves a home that will appreciate what a find he is!!!!!!
October 14, 2004 Update from Tommy's foster mom - My husband Scott and I and our dog Fido have had the privilege of taking care of Tommy for almost three weeks now. We cannot keep him, but we've come to that decision based upon factors in our lives that have nothing to do with Tommy. He is close to a perfect boy! He is gentle, sensitive, extremely tuned in to people, and very smart. We don't have children, but Tommy is such a gentle fellow that I think he would be great with kids!
He is also a good watchdog (alarm dog). We all love him.
Tommy is very playful and good with other dogs; he and our spayed female Fido have never had a cross word. He is respectful of her personal space, and doesn't trespass on her beds. He sticks up for himself, but I've never seen him be aggressive. We don't have a cat so I can't speak to that.
Tommy has not been really well trained but he learns incredibly fast! He knows come, and we are working on sit and down. He is learning "wait" to keep him from rushing through the door, and "OK" as a release. He sits politely for his meals; he is a great eater, but is not at all possessive about his bowl. He enjoys his two kennels for snoozing, one upstairs (daytime) and one downstairs (night time). Normally the kennel gates are open, but he does not get upset if I have to lock him in. He is good as gold alone upstairs when I am downstairs working on my computer; he
doesn't get up on the furniture, or into the trash, or chew on anything he shouldn't. (I have not left him loose in the house when I am gone, however.)
He likes to chase a ball and to tug, and he does like to chew hard on toys, so plush squeaky toys might not work for him. He loves the truck and curls up quietly in the cab, or happily jumps into the bed and gets into his kennel for the ride.
Flaws are so minor! Tommy does tend to rush the door, but is getting very good about waiting. He is such a love and wants to be close to his people, he likes to put his paws up on you, but is learning "Off". He will whine when he is anxious, when he first comes to a new house for instance, but that whining DEFINITELY stops in a few days, I promise! Even from the first day here he was quiet as a mouse in his kennel at night, and he is generally a quiet and good house dog.
In my opinion, this dog would be really good for several purposes. I think he would be a wonderful pal for children. He would make a great agility dog and I think a skijor partner, and I even think he would be good at dog dancing. I think HE would say that his best and highest purpose is to be your snuggle pup and lap dog! He deserves a very special home, and whomever decides to adopt him will get a very, very special, super loving, smart, charming, athletic, good boy.
August 30, 2004:
Tommy is a 2 yr old Lab/husky cross, neutered male. He is only 40 pounds and just as cute and sweet tempered as can be. He was originally adopted from the Animal Shelter and due to a family separation he needs a new home where there is more time for him. His relinquishing owner is fostering him until just the perfect home can be found for this special little boy. He has been with small children and does great. Tommy is very active but loving and desperately wants to be with a family. He needs someone who is home or only gone for short periods at a time.
Currently Tommy is tied outside while his owner works and in the house during the evening and night. We are working on getting Tommy used to being in the house while his owner is gone; but a family who are home during the day and can practice little time periods at a time would help him get used to it much faster. Winter is coming soon and his owner is very concerned and wants Tommy to have a family where he can be inside and get loads of attention.
