Sugar is a 10 month old Golden Retriever/Labrador cross. We like to call her "black gold". Sugar is exceptionally sweet and only 60 pounds. Sugar has been in two homes. Her last home had her a few months but was having trouble leaving her alone at home. We gave her some things to work on while she was waiting for room in our GRRF program. She did make good progress. At first when we got her she was pretty good in a kennel but whined which is much better that trying to break out of the kennel. If left out of the kennel, she has chewed things and scratched the door. We think Sugar does not have true "separation anxiety" but just not practiced at a younger age on how to act while alone. As a teenager she is doing great. She is calm in the house while loose and is very social with other dogs. She adores children and loves to snuggle. We have Sugar sleep in a kennel and eat there too so that the only time she is a kennel is not just when we leave. Sugar has adapted very well and as her foster mom I am extremely proud of the quick response of this lovely dog. She is very good off leash and on. She has many good manners and is just a beautiful dog. Sugar now goes into a kennel and settles well. We only leave her for about 4-5 hours at a time and give her lots of things to do and exercise. She has been loaned out to a foster for the weekend and adjusted very well. He comes and takes her for walks and playdates. Sugar loves to ride in the car and just "be" with you. Sugar has so much potential and is just a great dog. She needs a home where someone is not gone for extended periods at a time. If someone is home during the day they should continue to practice leaving her alone and continuing her progress. Contact us at our email, info@grrf.org Happying Endings!!! (Letter from her wonderful new home) Sugar has been lovingly adopted and now has a kitty to harass at whim (the kitty does not always agree and lets Sugar know!). Her new owners enjoy going outdoors with her to walk and play to Sugar's delight. Even though her new home is kind of small, she does have open land to run to her heart's delight. Sugar did very well in obedience training, and her new mom admits she learned a lot as well (you mean it isn't to teach the humans?). Sugar continues to be reminded about the heeling and sit/down/stand mini exercises with treats to make it more like fun. She really is a great dog and a "love-muffin" as well. P.S. Her nickname is "Sugar Bear". |
