RIKI
(looks like a Flat Coated Retriever but he is a cross) |
3/21/07 Riki is a 9 month old black Lab/Golden Ret. cross. He was relinquished by his owners due to the cost of an emergency surgery he needed for swallowing a sock. Unfortunately, they had waited five to six days hoping he would be better but he only got more sick. Dr. Rember at Mt. McKinley Animal Hospital called to see if GRRF could take on this very sweet dog that they had all fell in love with. He needed surgery that day to survive. The owners signed him over and were very happy he didn't have to be euthanized. We moved Riki to Aurora Animal Clinic were Dr. Stuve was available to go straight to surgery. Riki had a sock that had unravel in his intestine and had tried to saw through his gut. His intestine was starting to roll in on itself and strangulate the gut. Dr. Rember was right that he need surgery immediately Dr. Stuve was able to repair the gut and remove the foreign body. The next few days were touchy for Riki and it was hard to keep much down and we feared he may need more surgery. Then, three days after surgery, Riki woke up a new dog and was ready to eat everything in sight again. Now one week later, Riki is playing and everything is going great with him. He is a very sweet natured and loving retriever. He loves to play with other dogs but is very attached to people. He is a very devoted dog that just adores you. He is crate trained (to keep all socks away while alone) and his very good in the house. Lovely dog!!! If you are interested please email us at info@grrf.org
