2/2/06 MacKenzie is doing great with other dogs now. At first she was very bossy but just unsure and then 4 days later (it takes about 3-4 days to settle in) she was just great and is now very playful and having a ball playing with other dogs. Her health is great and she is a silly young golden with lots of playful energy and affection!! 1/14/06 MacKenzie is a 4 year old, spayed female, Golden Retriever. She is a tall and very light colored golden. Two years ago MacKenzie was diagnosed with MMM (Masticatory Muscle Myositis) that caused her jaw muscles to lock up. She got a tennis ball in her mouth but could not get it out. The disease causes the muscles in the jaw to turn fibrous and loose their mobility. It is a type of autoimmune problem but is has responded very well to low doses of Prednisone. MacKenzie is now on 5mg of Pred. every other day and plays, eats and licks like a normal golden. She has lost the muscle mass on the top of her head and that will remain. MacKenzie is a very playful, outgoing and fit golden girl. MacKenzie needs a home with no small children and preferably no other dogs. She gets along with dogs in foster care but she does like to be the boss. With older children and adult humans she is very affectionate and loving. She is very good with cats. MacKenzie will always have this disease but routine vet checks and inexpensive medications will help her live a long and normal life. Contact us at our email, info@grrf.org |
