MAC

8/5/08 UPDATE!! Mac is doing extremely well and is getting exercise every day. He is great on his hips and has just a little soreness on his right elbow. He is on joint supplements and still doesn't need any pain medication. Our veterinarian Dr. Stuve agrees that Mac may do just great like he is. He is athletic and active. As long as his weight stays good his recommendation is to wait and see how he is next year in the spring. If surgery is needed GRRF would pay for it. Otherwise this great gentle Lab is ready for a loving family to dote after him!! 7/12/08 Mac is a 5yr old, neutered male, black Lab. He is a return for GRRF. Mac was originally adopted at 4 months of age from our local Animal Shelter with a broken elbow. It healed well and he was adopted. His old owner has moved out of town and tried to give Mac away but it didn't work out and by contract with GRRF he must come back to us. Mac has some mild arthritis in his right elbow and has hip dysplasia in both hips. He gets around great and is very active but can be sore in the evenings. We are deciding about a hip surgery for Mac now or in the spring when he has more swimming time for physical therapy. Mac can be kept comfortable with medication. The surgery we would do is a FHO (femoral head ostectomy) cost about $1000 a side. Funds would be raised in his name and surgery would be paid by GRRF. We just did this surgery for Ruthie Grace a little golden girl. He would have no pain after healing from the surgery and would not need any more medication except later in life for his elbow. Mac is a kind and loving Lab. He gets along well with other dogs and loves to go for walks. He knows many commands and is very good at them. He is very good off leash too. Great Lab!!!!!
