Lucy 3

Lucy has a  happy ending:
Dec 15, 2004: Lucy 3 biopsy have come back and the lesions on her spleen were benign and with the 8 pound fatty tumor removed she is recovering very well.  Aurora Animal Clinic's own Dr. Bob Griffith had been fostering her and enjoying her company.  Today we rechecked her and sedated her to do her final exam to include her ear tattoo and hip radiographs.  The shelter had said she had an old tattoo that they could not read and had tried all numbers they thought it was.  While out and her ear shaved and cleaned we thought we could read the first letter that eluded the shelter.  We called it in and "bingo" a dog fitting her description was tattooed back in 1994 at the age of 2-3.  We called and got in touch with her owner who had since gotten divorced and moved a few times.  He had recently moved to North Pole and she had gone missing at Thanksgiving.  They had called the Animal Shelter and left notices but for a 13-14 year old lab with a collar and tags with her name Baby.  Our Lucy looked not a day over 10-11year old and was missing her collar.  They were elated to hear she was well and all that the Animal Shelter,  GRRF and Dr. Griffith and Dr. Stuve had done for her.  GRRF delivered Baby (Lucy3) safe and sound to her owners tonight along with pictures of her amazing tumor.  She had just seemed like she had gained a few pounds to her owners as the tumor was slow growing and well in her abdomen.  A little thinner and a little sleepy from her sedative early in the day she was still very happy and relieved to be home.  The man relayed her colorful and full events of this amazing dogs life and now this just added the final touch.  Baby had lovingly helped raise 8 children and he had had her since she was 5 weeks of age.  They were ensuring that she would no longer be trusted off leash in her senior age of nearly 14!!!  They gratefully helped pay for the majority of  her veterinary bills and GRRF and Aurora Animal Clinic emergency fund helped pay the rest.

December 10, 2004: Lucy was a stray at the Animal Shelter.  She appears to be around 8-10 years of age.  She had a distended stomach, thus GRRF got her out for medical care.  Her bloodwork and chest x-ray looked great but her x-ray of her abdomen was a bit odd and had our Veterinarian puzzled.  She had a large semi-firm mass in her abdomen but he could not aspirate any fluid from it.  It was however pushing all her organs up and she was losing weight.

She had an exploratory surgery and an 8.2 pound fatty benign tumor removed.  It was the oddest thing and very rare.  Lucy also had two small masses on her spleen and since Labradors are prone to splenic tumors, her spleen was removed and sent for histopath.  Lucy bounced right back and was happily eating the next day.  Lucy is a very fit and gorgeous lab.  She is already spayed and is now updated with vaccines.  We will have her biopsy results in this week and will update her progress.
