 JENNI

2/9/06

Jenni is a 1.5 year old, spayed female, Golden Retriever.  Jenni's old owner relinquished her to the animal shelter as she had started to growl at the three children in the family all under the age of seven.  At the Animal Shelter, Jenni was very afraid and nervous.  She growled there too and GRRF was quickly called to evaluate her.  Once in fostercare, Jenni calmed down nicely.  Jenni is a very sweet but easily intimidated golden.  We have been able to do anything to her and she is very submissive.  We suspect an innocent incident occurred with the children and Jenni lost her nerve or trust and growled for space.  This is usually something we could work on but the family was very nervous about this.  At the animal shelter, new families would bend over Jenni at her cage and this scared her and so she growled.  In fostercare, Jenni has never even thought about this.  She curls up with older children and seems quite happy to see them and play.  She is very good with other dogs.  We are working on getting Jenni out and socialized with things and she is coming along extremely well.  We suspect Jenni is Sam 3 sister.  They have a very similar face, body and temperament.  The shy and nervous gene is a very strong genetic trait.  Jenni's owners purchased her from an ad in the newspaper and they were discouraged from seeing the parents and the breeder took the pup to them to see.  Always see the parents if you can.  We adore Jenni and will place her in a quieter environment with experienced Golden owners.  Jenni has so much to offer and she is desperate to please and be loved.  (Note: Sam 3 was shy and is now in obedience class with his new family and he is a new dog.  He is getting more outgoing and his personality is blossoming into a fabulous golden.  We hope the very same for Jenni.)

UPDATE-  Jenni is on trial with a family that had a golden like Jenni in the past.  They are experienced golden owners and their old beloved golden they adopted at a young age due to a similar situation as Jenni, died at an older age over the Holidays.  They are extremely happy to have Jenni and she is working out very well.
