Jake 4

Adopted

January, 2004!

October 2004 Update from Jake 4's new family:

I adopted Jake in January 2004 and wanted to let you know how he’s doing.  First let me say he is the most devoted, loving companion I could’ve ever asked for.  He’s a big goof at times, and the whole world revolves around me and his tennis balls – but he is so well behaved, patient and loving, and gets along great with my 2 cats.  He’s a medical mess, but most of his problems are under control.  He’s still on Rymadyl for his arthritis, and on thyroid medication, but his skin condition is good and we only have occasional flare ups with his ears.  Dr. Rapp at Cornerstone Animal Hospital is his vet and the gang there just love to see Jake.  He’s always so good!  His toe was amputated in February (he came with a growth on the bone) but he doesn’t miss it at all and still loves to walk and, of course, chase his balls!

I can’t begin to tell you how much joy Jake has brought to my life. He’ll be 9 yrs old this October, and next year  I’ll be looking for a companion dog to keep him company while I’m at work.   I’m so glad I found GRRF and Jake!  Keep up the good work you do!  You’re really making a difference in the lives of these “golden hearts” as well as the people who adopt them.

Thanks again for bringing us together!

January 1, 2004 -  Jake is an 8 yr old male Golden Retriever.  His owner relinquished him to GRRF due to a move and domestic difficulties.  Jake is now neutered, tattooed, had a complete vet check done, bloodwork which was all normal.  He has good hips but both elbows were very swollen.  Radiographs showed that he has some moderate elbow dysplasia (arthritis) in his right elbow.  He had infected ears and a staph infection on his belly.  Jake has been on medication and his skin and ears have all resolved.  The swelling in his elbow has also resolved.  His is on Rimadyl for his right elbow and he feels like a pup and is now active and playful.

As you can see Jake is full of character.  He loves to carry things in his mouth and has been quite handy to have around.  Like most guys he like to hold the remote.  He is loose in the house during the day and is a dream.  He does meet his foster mom at the door with a shoe or something close by.  He never chews anything just carries to you.  He adores everyone and gets along very well with other dogs.  He has great leash manners on and off leash.  He loves to ride in the car and his foster mom just raves about him.  He is a very sweet dog with loads to offer.
