J.D.

1/2/10

I am a teenage mutant ninja juvenile delinquent golden.  I am not the golden you see in the movies! Really, I am just a normal preteen active golden retriever that needs patience, rules, guidance and some serious running off leash to burn off all this energy.  I am open to suggestions and can easily be corrected.  I do have liquid brown eyes and a heart of gold, its just that I  get silly sometimes!

My downfall is that I live to play and sometimes I don’t know when to quit.  So, supervised play and time outs are necessary.  I love to play tug and could go on for hours if you let me.  However, I do settle in the house quite nicely and am able to just hang out too.  I am sincere and loving and do like to lay next to you with my head in your lap.  Because I am still young and impetuous, I can knock over little kids and older dogs.  The best way for me to be successful is to get lots of exercise, off leash, exploring and running around.  I do walk nicely on a leash if I need to.

I am a very curious dog. Every drawer you open at my height needs to be inspected.  I treat the world as if everything I see is something new and unique and needs to be checked out.  I do like to chew, but have not chewed up anything inappropriate, as long as the wubbies and small chew toys are available.  I am a retriever, so socks and underwear are fair game, especially if you leave the laundry basket where I can reach it.  I am not a counter surfing hound, but an occasional look never hurts.  For the most part I stay off the counter though.

When the humans are gone, I stay in a wire kennel.  At night I sleep in a soft kennel in the bedroom and have learned to sleep the whole night through and wait for them to wake up.

I know the basic commands of sit, down and come.  I will work for treats.  My come is ok, but needs some work.  I usually don’t go too far from my dog pals or human, but the “come” needs to be polished up.  I have a very soft mouth and will take treats very gently.
