Gidge (now "Jenny")

Adopted 5-20-2004

July 30,2004 update: Thanks to Marina for sending the great photos of Gidge and her human "Kindred Spirit", above and below.  We love follow-up stories and pictures of our beloved rescues.  Enjoy!

May 30, 2004 update: Gidge has been adopted by a Juneau family. They saw her on the web site and felt she was the dog for them. Our Anchorage GRRF representative, Marina Jarvis, just happened to be traveling to Juneau and we sent Gidge on a Gold Streak flight from Fairbanks. In Juneau, Marina drove Gidge to her new home and personally delivered her. As Gidge and Marina arrived at the address, there was a little girl sitting on the fence. Marina stopped the car and asked the little girl if she was waiting for something.  Without hesitation, the little girl announced she was waiting for her new puppy and Marina told her that she had arrived.

This family is everything we were hoping for Gidge.  Kathy is a 10 year old girl who has really conducted research about dogs. She knew what she and her family were looking for. She also had a new named picked out and Gidge has happily become Jenny. The family has emailed about what a very good young dog Jenny is how well behaved she is. Kathy and Jenny are nearly inseparateable. After all Jenny (Gidge) has endured she has finally traveled to her final destination.  GRRF is grateftul to have been a part in saving Gidge's life:  she was a pleasure to know and care for.  We are all very happy for these little girls-- Gidge and Kathy .

April 16, 2004:  Although Gidge had been adopted and her new family thought she was great, they also discovered that they hadn't completed the grieving process for their old dog.  Our hearts and empathy go out to the family, as we well know how important it is to work through all the steps of grieving.  Please read below for little Gidge's history to date:

March 19, 2004:  Hurray! Gidge had her follow up hip x-ray today. It has been four weeks since the first and she has completely healed and all is well. She can run and play and be a normal pup now. She is very well behaved and is almost completely housebroken.  She is very quiet and rides well in the car. She has a soft and affectionate personality

March 8, 2004:  Gidge is a very sweet spayed, female, black Labrador/hound cross. She is about 14 weeks old and has large, lovely, "doe" like eyes that really suck you in. She is as dear as she looks and loves everything in life. She is extremely affectionate and adores attention. She is crate trained and is current on her vaccines, is wormed and has her hips x-rayed. Gidge had been at the shelter from February 7th through the 17th and had a terrible upper respiratory disease (now healed) and a limp so GRRF got her out to x-ray and found a old fracture neck of her femur. It is healing nicely on its own.  Gidge has been in foster care for two weeks to help her heal and she is doing great. She runs around and walks well. She should not have any further complications with her hip.
