12/06/07 Courtney is a 12 week old, female, black Labrador pup from the Nome Animal Shelter. She was left in the shelter cages with a lame front left paw. Her breeder was notified in Nome and she thought she had found good homes for all the pups but she didn't get names or phone numbers of the new owners to call and find out what happened to this pup. She was flown to GRRF in Fairbanks by Frontier Flying Service and brought to Aurora Animal Clinic. Radiographs show that Courtney has three broken toes or metacarpals that were healing. She most likely was stepped on and she tried to pull her foot out and tore her ligaments on the lateral (outside) of her wrist. Her toes are healing but the ligaments make her foot flop around and so she will need to have a splint on to give support for the next 4-6 weeks. With this on Courtney is a playful and active pup. She is incredibly smart and a dream pup to have around. She is very still when she gets her splint changed every 2-3 days. She loves to be held and but is very active and playful on the ground. 12/20/07 Courtney is in trial with a family that adopted Diamond a young female black Lab from us last year. Courtney and Diamond get along great and she has a great family that is very patient with her injury and brings her to the Vet often for her checkups. Things are working out wonderfully.
