October 15, 2004: Billet is doing great! The Aurora veterinarians did blood work on him yesterday and sent samples out of state for analysis. One is a thyroid to Michigan State and the other is an Allergy inhalant serum test for 40 of the most common inhalant we have in interior Alaska. That way we will know if he is allergic to birch trees and such. Billet has been prescribed Z/D, a hypoallergenic food. On Thursday, we did his x-rays. His hips look very good but he does have an OCD lesion (a very small piece of cartilage) that has moved out of the shoulder joint area and is not causing him any discomfort at all. We are waiting for Dr. Stuve to return Oct 25 for a consult to see if surgery is necessary. Billet had his ears flushed and medicated. He is on oral medications too but his skin is really looking good at the moment. His old family really kept up well with his skin and we think he looks pretty good. He has settled down and loves to play with other dogs. Billet is so fun-- Susan (our veterinarian technician president and foster coordinator) says she is looking forward to taking him home on Sat to play with Ben. Rusty, Jake and the puppies have been playing at work with him. We are working on getting Billet accustomed to a head halter; and he does well with come and sit commands. He is very quiet during the day too and plays well with his toys. October 11, 2004: Billet was relinquished by a loving Anchorage family who had tried repeatedly to cure his allergy problems. They were broken hearted at giving Billet up, but decided that the dry Interior of Alaska might be Billet's best solution for allergy-free living. We will be running bloodwork today and tomorrow to narrow down Billet's allergies. He is a tall, strong young golden. He doesn't know much but he is very friendly, willing to please and nice. We will update Billet's story as we get more information and photos. If you are interested in this handsome friend, please contact us at our e-mail, info@grrf.org! |
