2004 Pets and People Day:
Remember to mark your calendar - this coming Saturday, 8 May, is Pets and People Day at the Fairgrounds!
The day starts with a fun run (about 2 miles) at 11 AM (for dogs and people only, no other species allowed this year) - register at Pet Stuff all week. Of course, for anyone waiting until the last minute, there will be registration available at 9:30 AM at the Fairgrounds. Pet Stuff is giving away a limited number of free T-shirts starting Wednesday afternoon or Thursday to the first registrants! For more information call 479-6182.
Pets and People Day will run from noon until 4 PM. There will be Pony rides! Petting zoo! Pets for adoption! Mr. Checkers! Fairbanks Dog Park will have a table of course, along with many other organizations. There will be animals of all kinds, from horses to hamsters, from gerbils to goats, so don't miss it! The admission cost is only $1.50 per person, $5 for a family.
There will be demonstrations of agility, search and rescue, and herding! AKC Certified trainers (Golden Retriever Rescue volunteers as well, naturally!) will provide Canine Good Citizen testing! Canine Good Citizen Testing is a good first step to take with your dog if you are interested in therapy dog work, obedience or other trials or show work. The fee is $10.00 You will need to bring current rabies documentation for the dog to be tested.
Did you know that
this event is the one and only fundraiser for Companions
Inc.? They do great work! So this is a chance to have a wonderful day
and help out a wonderful organization at the same time. For more information
about Pets and People Day or about Companions Inc. call Linda at 456-7580
or Diana at 457-4312. (An added bonus, by the way, is that Saturday will also
be opening day for the Farmer's Market, right next to the fairgrounds!)
